Ellen Taylor – Director Emeritus: Ellen is from Edisto Beach, SC and has been a Shag Hall of Fame member since 1986, a member of the Living Legends and the National Living Legends of Dance and is currently a shag instructor. She has been active throughout her life as a shagger participating in any activity that promotes the Shag. Ellen was recognized in 1992 by Governor Carroll Campbell and Lieutenant Governor Nick Theodore of South Carolina for her dedication and promotion of South Carolina’s State Dance, the Shag. An active sponsor of the Junior Shaggers Association for many years, Ellen is always present and ready to assist when called upon during the week of Junior SOS. She enjoys working with juniors and sharing her knowledge and experience of the dance with any young person (or older person) that asks for her time. Ellen credits her husband, Carl, for anything she may have accomplished as a shagger and without his support she could not have been as involved as she has been most of her dance life. Her desire to assist families with junior aged children to be able to participate in junior shag activities has become a reality with the organization of the Foundation.
Foster McKinney – Executive Director, Columbia, SC: Foster is a practicing CPA and a longtime Treasurer of SOS. He met his wife at a shag club and proposed at The Pad during the 1989 Fall Migration. The house DJ, Gary Bass, promptly announced it over the loud speaker.
   Kyle TaylorExecutive Director, Columbia, SC:  Kyle has been in the law enforcement field since 1991 and worked with many agencies such as the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety, Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).From March 2002 until June 2008, Kyle was a DEA Task Force Officer. In June 2011, after a 20 year career in law enforcement, Kyle retired with a rank of Sergeant from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Division. He is currently the lead investigator for Southern Investigative Services, LLC, a company that he owns with his wife, Dina.Kyle and Dina have been married since 1997 and have a daughter, Brianna, who is a competitive dancer and a son, Colby. Kyle spends his spare time on the soccer field with his son, fishing with his Dad, and loves being outdoors. Kyle learned to shag at an early age and loves interacting with our junior shaggers. Kyle’s parents are Carl and Ellen Taylor.
  Brianna Taylor–Outreach Chairperson, Columbia, SC: Brianna Taylor was born and raised in Columbia, SC, and is currently employed as a soloist with Columbia Classical Ballet Company, a ballet mistress at Broadway Bound Musical Theatre Company and works at Glow Out Salon in Columbia, SC. Brianna has been dancing since the age of 4 years old when she fell in love with the stage and decided she wanted to become a prima ballerina. She received her formal ballet training with Radenko Pavlovich and musical theatre training with Dedra Daniels-Mount. Additionally, she has trained at Steps on Broadway, ABT, Broadway Dance Center and was a performance soloist at Bolshoi Ballet Academy. Brianna has also guested with the contemporary dance company Vibrations under the direction of Terrance Henderson. She was a 2009 & 2013 YAGP Finalist in NYC, 2015 & 2018 Valentina Koslova’s International Ballet Competition (VKIBC) Semi-Finalist and 2017 VKIBC Finalist in NYC. Brianna developed her love of the Shag from her grandparents but was not able to attend her first Junior SOS until she was in high school. Since that time, she has fallen in love with the dance and shortly after began competing as a Junior Shagger. Brianna and Brennar Goree are Paris Open Pro-Am Gold medalists. She is also a past member of Shagtime 2 Junior Dance Team and a current member of the Junior Shag Dance Team. Brianna is the daughter of Kyle and Dina Taylor and the granddaughter of Carl and Ellen Taylor.
   Garrett Humphries – Director and Workshop Program Chairman, West Columbia, SC: Born and raised in Gaffney, South Carolina, Garrett graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2001 with a degree in Marketing and Management and a minor in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management. He then pursued a master’s degree in HRTM, graduating in 2002. While attending USC, Garrett served as the beloved mascot, “Cocky”, from 1998-2001. Currently, Garrett is a Central Nervous System District Manager of UCB Pharma, a pharmaceutical company based in Belgium with United States operations in Atlanta, Georgia. In his spare time, he enjoys water recreation, shagging, and teaching private and group dance lessons in the Columbia area. He and his dance partner claimed their first national title in March 2005 at the National Shag Dance Championships.
 
Betty Ladwig – Shoe Program Chairperson, North Myrtle Beach, SC: Betty is retired and is a Lifetime Member of the Smoky Mountain Shaggers in Knoxville, TN, the Atlanta Swing Club in GA and the West Coast Swing Dance Club of Orange County, CA. Founder of the Smoky Mountain Shaggers in Knoxville, TN, Betty served as president from 1996-2000. She was a member of the Nashville Shag Club, Chattanooga Choo Choo and Derby City Bop Club. She has served as Membership Chairperson for the OD Shag Club and has been a corporate member of the Junior Shagger Association for many years. Betty was inducted in the National Living Legends of Dance in VA Beach, VA in 1999 and was a 2013 recipient of the Shag Icon Award in N. Myrtle Beach, SC. She currently chairs the Shoe Program for the Foundation and puts heart and soul (sole) into making certain junior shaggers have dance shoes available at Jr. SOS each July in N. Myrtle Beach.

 

  Crystal HummerDirector, Myrtle Beach, SC:  Crystal was born and raised in Sanford, NC, but after living in several different areas of the Southeast and Midwest after college, she settled in Myrtle Beach, SC.  She is a graduate of Campbell University and has been employed with the March of Dimes since 2007 as the Executive Director of Market Development for the Eastern South Carolina Market.  In addition to serving on the Ellen Taylor Foundation Board, she is also a Board Member for the Better Business Bureau of Coastal Carolina.  Crystal learned to shag in her early 20’s after going out with her Mom and some of her friends to hear a beach band.  She saw folks shagging and immediately fell in love with it.  She signed up for shag lessons soon after.  She feels blessed for the friends and memories that she’s made over the years because of the dance.
  Mandy Holt Roberts – Director Assistance Program, North Myrtle Beach, SC: Born in Eden, N.C., Mandy started shagging at the age of 14. After watching junior couples dance at a local contest, she was “hooked” and started taking lessons and now many years later she is still involved and dancing. Mandy is a two time National Champion, a past member of the National Shag Dance Team, a past board member of the Junior Shaggers Association, a current board member for the Hall of Fame Foundation and the 1st recipient of the Beth Mitchell Scholarship. Mandy has also competed, judged and taught shag lessons at many contest around the country. Mandy now resides in North Myrtle Beach and continues to dance, teach and spread the word about our wonderful dance Shag.
Isaiah Burroughs – Treasurer – Charlotte, NC: Isaiah was born and raised in Salisbury, NC and now lives in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from Appalachian State in 2018 with a degree in Accounting. Currently, Isaiah works at Bank of America in the Financial Management Analyst Program. Isaiah started dancing his freshmen year of High School after his brother, Justin, came back from Jr. SOS with a new passion that he spread to the whole family. He competed as a junior and was a member of the Junior Shag Dance team of the Carolinas from 2010 to 2013. Isaiah looks forward to making an impact on the shag community the same way the shag community made an impact on his life.
Chrislin Mobley – Social Media Chairperson, Clover South Carolina: Chrislin has been married to her husband, Rusty, for 16 years and they love the unconventional life they have built together. They have two very talented children and one equally talented “bonus daughter” (Emma Anne-age 16, Clinton-age 14, and Elle-age 16) who, give credit to God, their parents, family and community for their gifts, talents, and abilities. Chrislin works hard to keep her children, niece and nephews well-rounded and educated at home, while Rusty “brings home the bacon”! Chrislin’s family supports and maintains a full working farm where they all have a part in raising livestock. Beyond caring for matters of the heart and home, Chrislin, along with Mike Marr, recently created the Piedmont Carolinas Junior Shaggers (PCJS) to funnel Piedmont area Junior Shaggers to local events. When visiting local adult shag clubs, Chrislin encourages them to sponsor and provide juniors with free lessons and social dances. She also assists with coordinating free lessons for multiple Junior Shag Clubs in her hometown of Clover, South Carolina. She enjoys using her creative talents, eye for design, and organizational skills to help promote the Ellen Taylor Foundation, PCJS and other Junior Shag Clubs, who works so hard to keep the dance alive.
Kim Renn– Director, North Myrtle Beach, SC: Kim is originally from Newark, Delaware and currently calls North Myrtle Beach, SC home. She has been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. Watching the movie Shag piqued her curiosity and was the beginning of an amazing journey. Kim relocated to Chapel Hill, NC to work at UNC Hospital. She knew at this point it was time to learn the Shag dance. She started taking Shag lessons, with her now husband, Bryan, at Loafers Beach Club in Raleigh, NC in 2011. The became hooked! Kim and her husband started competing in the SPA and CSA in 2012 and became Professional’s in 2017. She has competed in the Shag National Dance Championships, the USA Grand National Dance Championship and the US Open. She danced on the dance team Old But Gold, directed by Brennar Goree, and traveled around the country competing alongside he Junior Shag Dance Team. Kim has two granddaughters who have been attending Jr. SOS since before the age of 2. Kim is thrilled to be apart of the Ellen Taylor Foundation and to have this opportunity to serve in assisting all juniors in making their dance dreams and goals come true.
