Ellen Taylor – Director Emeritus: Ellen is from Edisto Beach, SC and has been a Shag Hall of Fame member since 1986, a member of the Living Legends and the National Living Legends of Dance and is currently a shag instructor. She has been active throughout her life as a shagger participating in any activity that promotes the Shag. Ellen was recognized in 1992 by Governor Carroll Campbell and Lieutenant Governor Nick Theodore of South Carolina for her dedication and promotion of South Carolina’s State Dance, the Shag. An active sponsor of the Junior Shaggers Association for many years, Ellen is always present and ready to assist when called upon during the week of Junior SOS. She enjoys working with juniors and sharing her knowledge and experience of the dance with any young person (or older person) that asks for her time. Ellen credits her husband, Carl, for anything she may have accomplished as a shagger and without his support she could not have been as involved as she has been most of her dance life. Her desire to assist families with junior aged children to be able to participate in junior shag activities has become a reality with the organization of the Foundation.
Foster McKinney – Executive Director, Columbia, SC: Foster is a practicing CPA and a longtime Treasurer of SOS. He met his wife at a shag club and proposed at The Pad during the 1989 Fall Migration. The house DJ, Gary Bass, promptly announced it over the loud speaker.
Ron Alexander – Executive Director, N. Myrtle Beach, SC: Ron became interested in the Shag and its music in the mid-70s. He was a charter member and past president of the York Shag Club and remains active with the club. He and wife Nancy and son Cory have been involved with the Junior Shag Association since it was organized in 1992 and have been in a leadership role with the JSA and Junior SOS ever since. Ron received an ACSC Shaggers Icon award in 2005 and he and Nancy received the ACSC Chairman’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006
   Kyle TaylorExecutive Director, Columbia, SC:  Kyle has been in the law enforcement field since 1991 and worked with many agencies such as the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety, Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).From March 2002 until June 2008, Kyle was a DEA Task Force Officer. In June 2011, after a 20 year career in law enforcement, Kyle retired with a rank of Sergeant from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Division. He is currently the lead investigator for Southern Investigative Services, LLC, a company that he owns with his wife, Dina.Kyle and Dina have been married since 1997 and have a daughter, Brianna, who is a competitive dancer and a son, Colby. Kyle spends his spare time on the soccer field with his son, fishing with his Dad, and loves being outdoors. Kyle learned to shag at an early age and loves interacting with our junior shaggers. Kyle’s parents are Carl and Ellen Taylor.
   Karen Callahan – Director, Beckley, WV: Karen is from Beckley, WV and has been an active member of the Beckley Area Shag Club for over 20 years. Working at a local level in her shag club, Karen has held most offices and has helped plan and coordinate annual club parties and also several CSA contests. Employed by Jim Hern, an avid junior supporter, and corporate sponsor of the Junior Shag Association, Karen has been blessed to watch so many of our juniors mature. The jLee Foundation for Arts & Sciences has provided numerous scholarships to deserving young junior shaggers and Karen is the Scholarship Administrator. Karen was honored to become one of the 2010 Shagging Icons and in 2014, was inducted into the National Living Legends of Dance. Karen has had the opportunity to work with Ellen Taylor in many capacities and is excited to be a part of the Foundation and what it represents.
   Garrett Humphries – Director and Workshop Program Chairman, West Columbia, SC: Born and raised in Gaffney, South Carolina, Garrett graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2001 with a degree in Marketing and Management and a minor in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management. He then pursued a master’s degree in HRTM, graduating in 2002. While attending USC, Garrett served as the beloved mascot, “Cocky”, from 1998-2001. Currently, Garrett is a Central Nervous System District Manager of UCB Pharma, a pharmaceutical company based in Belgium with United States operations in Atlanta, Georgia. In his spare time, he enjoys water recreation, shagging, and teaching private and group dance lessons in the Columbia area. He and his dance partner claimed their first national title in March 2005 at the National Shag Dance Championships.
   Donna Hosaflook – Director, Lake Wateree, SC: Donna is from Indian Trail, NC. Donna spent her summers in the ‘60’s and 70’s at Carolina Beach admiring the “fas” dancers and enjoying the music. She and her husband, Rusty, took group and private shag lessons starting in 1989 from Shad and Brenda Alberty at Groucho’s. Attending SOS Fall Migration later that year, both Donna and Rusty were hooked on the shag lifestyle. Donna has been a member of Bopper’s Shag Club, Monroe Shag Club and OD Shag Club. She danced her first competition at Bopper’s in 1990 and her first SPA contest at the Sand Flea in 1992. Her love for the dance and the music lived on and in 2001, she and Rusty moved to North Myrtle Beach and began competing in the SPA/CSA circuit. In 2004, she was elected to the CSA Board and in 2005 became the first female elected President of CSA. In 2007, she and Rusty were members of the National shag Dance Team. They enjoy teaching and being ambassadors for our state dance. Donna has been a sponsor of the Junior Shaggers Association, taught workshops and encouraged Ellen Taylor to establish this Foundation and is proud to be a part of it.
  Crystal HummerDirector, Myrtle Beach, SC:  Crystal was born and raised in Sanford, NC, but after living in several different areas of the Southeast and Midwest after college, she settled in Myrtle Beach, SC.  She is a graduate of Campbell University and has been employed with the March of Dimes since 2007 as the Executive Director of Market Development for the Eastern South Carolina Market.  In addition to serving on the Ellen Taylor Foundation Board, she is also a Board Member for the Better Business Bureau of Coastal Carolina.  Crystal learned to shag in her early 20’s after going out with her Mom and some of her friends to hear a beach band.  She saw folks shagging and immediately fell in love with it.  She signed up for shag lessons soon after.  She feels blessed for the friends and memories that she’s made over the years because of the dance.
  Mandy Roberts – Assistance Program, North Myrtle Beach, SC: Born in Eden, N.C., Mandy started shagging at the age of 14. After watching junior couples dance at a local contest, she was “hooked” and started taking lessons and now many years later she is still involved and dancing. Mandy is a two time National Champion, a past member of the National Shag Dance Team, a past board member of the Junior Shaggers Association, a current board member for the Hall of Fame Foundation and the 1st recipient of the Beth Mitchell Scholarship. Mandy has also competed, judged and taught shag lessons at many contest around the country. Mandy now resides in North Myrtle Beach and continues to dance, teach and spread the word about our wonderful dance Shag.
   Betty Ladwig – Shoes Program Chairperson, North Myrtle Beach, SC: Betty is retired and is a Lifetime Member of the Smoky Mountain Shaggers in Knoxville, TN, the Atlanta Swing Club in GA and the West Coast Swing Dance Club of Orange County, CA. Founder of the Smoky Mountain Shaggers in Knoxville, TN, Betty served as president from 1996-2000. She was a member of the Nashville Shag Club, Chattanooga Choo Choo and Derby City Bop Club. She has served as Membership Chairperson for the OD Shag Club and has been a corporate member of the Junior Shagger Association for many years. Betty was inducted in the National Living Legends of Dance in VA Beach, VA in 1999 and was a 2013 recipient of the Shag Icon Award in N. Myrtle Beach, SC. She currently chairs the Shoe Program for the Foundation and puts heart and soul (sole) into making certain junior shaggers have dance shoes available at Jr. SOS each July in N. Myrtle Beach.
